Jane’s passion for baking comes from her grandfather who owned a bakery in Hastings. In turn her father also caught the baking bug, and as a 6-year-old she was in awe watching her dad pipe and ice cakes.
She loves traditional flavours and baking classic cakes, biscuits and pastry, but isn’t afraid to try new challenges. She’s calm under pressure so long as it’s not her nemeses, macarons or ciabatta.
Howard is an amateur baker from Sheffield, who first caught the public’s attention on series four of the BBC’s The Great British Bake Off. With his easy-going charm, cheeky humour and baking brilliance, Dan Beasley-Harling was one of the most memorable contestants in 2018’s The Great British Bake Off. A firm favourite with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, he received a record-breaking three ‘Hollywood handshakes’– for his Boozy Black Forest Gateaux Tray Bake in Cake Week, his Sticky Spiced Orange Chelsea Buns (which Paul said were ‘annoyingly perfect’) in Bread Week, and his deliciously fruity Florida Roulade in Desserts Week.
Making it to the quarter-final of BBC’s hit show The Great British Bake Off, his time on the series was “an opportunity to show that men like me, stereotyped by our jobs, do and can love baking and that it is a skill and talent to be proud of.
Paul soon became a favourite on the show after he constructed a lion made entirely from bread, with judge Paul Hollywood saying it’s one of the “best things” he’s ever seen made out of bread and that even he wouldn’t have dared to take on such a challenge.
